Why every platform renders your link differently.
The OG spec is universal. The implementations are not. Here's what each platform actually reads — and ignores.
When you paste a URL into Facebook, LinkedIn, X, iMessage, Slack, or any other modern platform, the receiver doesn't just store the URL — it fetches the page, reads the meta tags, and renders a rich preview card. Open Graph (defined by Facebook in 2010, now universal) provides the baseline. Twitter Cards (X-specific, broader than just Twitter now) layer on platform-specific extensions. Different platforms read different combinations of these — sometimes ignoring each other entirely.
Facebook, LinkedIn, iMessage, Slack, and Discord read OG tags primarily. X reads Twitter Card tags primarily, falling back to OG. WhatsApp reads OG with image-size constraints (under 300KB or it gets dropped). Telegram reads both. The catch: each platform has its own crop rules, character limits, and image-format preferences. A preview that's perfect on Facebook can be unreadably truncated on LinkedIn, and silently broken on WhatsApp.

LinkedIn caches OG data for ~30 days. If you've updated your tags since the URL was first shared, LinkedIn is still showing the old version. Force a refresh via the LinkedIn Post Inspector — paste the URL, hit 'Refresh'.
