Content Brief — from cluster to ready-to-draft

What goes into a brief, how to generate one, and how to tune the output for your team's voice.

4 min readUpdated Jun 10, 2026

Content Brief turns a keyword cluster into a complete writing brief — target keyword + secondary keywords, search intent, top-ranking pages summarized, suggested H2s, internal-link recommendations, SERP-feature targets — in about 60 seconds.

Generating a brief

  1. From any keyword view, select a cluster (or a single keyword) and click "Generate brief."
  2. Pick the writing voice — Authoritative, Conversational, Technical, or your custom voice (see below).
  3. Pick target length (short ~800 words, medium ~1500, long ~3000+).
  4. Click "Generate." The brief lands in your Briefs tab in under a minute.

What's in the output

  • Target keyword + 5-10 secondary keywords from the cluster.
  • Search intent classification + 1-paragraph audience summary.
  • Top 10 ranking pages summarized (word count, key sections, content angle).
  • Suggested H2/H3 outline based on SERP-shared sections.
  • Required SERP features to target (FS, PAA, video pack, etc.).
  • 5-15 internal-link suggestions from your existing site (pulled from your own content, not generic).
  • Outbound link suggestions to authoritative sources for credibility.

Custom writing voice

Workspace settings → Content → Custom voice. Paste 2-3 paragraphs of your team's existing best writing. The engine extracts the tone signals (sentence length, vocabulary register, contraction usage, formality, hedging frequency) and applies them to every future brief — without you needing to write a prompt.

Briefs are starting points, not final drafts

The brief is meant to remove the strategy-and-research labor — what to write, in what order, against what competitors — so your writer can focus on the actual writing. Teams that try to skip the writing step entirely report worse output than teams that brief-then-draft.
